Power Outages and Loss of Water Supply

Power Outage at RPID Pump House
  • In the event of a power outage the pump at the well head becomes in-operative and the only available water supply is that remaining in the storage tanks.
  • We have 2 water tanks that provide 5,500 imperial gallons.  If the power remains off for an extended period of time, we have a gas generator in the pump house that we can use to replenish the tanks periodically.
What RPID residents can do during a Power Outage?
  • During a power outage, we urge residents to minimize their use of water during power disruptions.  For example, flush toilets only when absolutely necessary and do not use baths, showers or outside sprinklers or hoses until the power is restored.
  • Should an occasion occur when our water supply is interrupted, you will be notified by an RPID Trustee.
  • Please ensure that the Trustees have your current contact information and that you are registered with Pender Island’s Neighbourhood Emergency Program.
What happens when an RPID resident experiences a loss of water supply or water pressure?
  • If you experience a loss of water supply, check your meter.  If the meter is still operating then the problem is on your property and it is your responsibility to arrange for repairs.
  • However, if the meter isn’t operating, immediately contact one of the Trustees because the problem is likely somewhere else in the system.
